How does a word ladder work?

Change exactly one letter to make a new English word at every step. Keep the letters in their positions and keep the same word length. Continue until you reach the finish word.

What changes with difficulty?

Easy uses three-letter words with first-letter hints. Medium uses four-letter words and reveals one middle word. Hard uses longer routes without hints.

Can I choose my own words?

This version offers 12 ready-made ladders, four per difficulty. Choose a start and finish pair or use Choose for me. Custom word entry is not available.

Is the answer key the only solution?

No. It shows one valid route. Another route is also acceptable if every step is a valid English word and exactly one letter changes.

Can I save and print it?

Save current puzzle keeps the exact ladder, hints and difficulty in this browser on this device. PDF and Print include the worksheet and a separate answer key. PNG exports the current preview.

Can I solve it on screen?

This is a worksheet maker for printing or downloading. The preview does not accept typed answers.
